Hosted by CoDec faculty at UMass, the SCAI Research Symposium brought together academia, industry experts, and government to imagine AI infrastructure as a flexible and responsible participant in the broader public-infrastructure ecosystem, designed to respect the resource constraints of existing infrastructure and serve the public good.
CoDec faculty are hosting the second year of the UMass Turing Summer Program. This summer, we welcomed 20 high school students from Western Massachusetts for a three-week program in computer science.
CoDec faculty and students made a great showing at ACM Sustainability Week in Banff, Alberta! Faculty and students from all six CoDec institutions (UMass Amherst, MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Chicago, UCLA, UW-Madison) co-authored seven papers at e-Energy and two papers at BuildSys -- congratulations to all authors and collaborators!
CoDec researchers at UMass and UCLA released an open-source framework called CarbonX that uses Time Series Foundation Models (TSFMs) to forecast carbon intensity and recover missing carbon signals using only historical carbon intensity data, without grid-specific tuning or auxiliary data.
In Fall 2025, CoDec welcomed our first yearly cohort of undergraduate researchers participating in the UMass CICS Early Research Scholars Program (ERSP) — a year-long, apprenticeship-style research experience that introduces first- and second-year students into computing research.
Prashant Shenoy gave a keynote talk titled “Data Centers, AI Workloads, and Efficiency: A Systems Perspective” at the NSF Compute-Energy Nexus Workshop in Chicago, IL on December 8th, 2026.
